Shelter for animals

photo_2022-03-18_12-37-19.jpg

Currently, the sanatorium "Pearl of the Carpathians" is organizing a shelter for animals that were taken out with refugees, as well as for animals that were found and transferred by volunteers from the places of the evacuation. In the animal shelter, we provide conditions for the accommodation of dogs, cats, rabbits,  and birds. In the future, thоse animals will be involved in improving the children's mental state, according to the method of recovery through communication with different types of animals (pet therapy). Currently, the effectiveness and naturalness of pet therapy have been proven. Pet therapy is widely used in many countries around the world.

PET THERAPY

Scientific studies show that tactile contact and the ability to take care of animals allow children to handle stress and return to peaceful life more quickly. So scientists have found that communication with animals has a beneficial effect on humans. Today, there are many different studies on the effects of animals on people. In particular, Karen Allen, a researcher from the State University of New York at Buffalo, notes that dogs can help people cope with stress. Also, Sandra B. Barker and Kathryn S. Dawson, the University of Virginia School of Medicine,  studied the effect of therapy dogs on the anxiety levels of hospitalized psychiatric patients who had a wide range of diagnoses. As a result of the experiment, it turned out that pet therapy was more effective than traditional psychotherapy. Many patients showed a significant decrease in their anxiety level thanks to the animals.

Thus, therapy using animals has a positive effect on the following diseases and conditions:

  • Affective disorders.

  • Psychosis.

  • Anxiety.

  • Childhood psychological trauma.

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder.

Research in the field of pediatrics shows that exercise with dogs improves the psycho-emotional state of young patients, improves motor skills, reduces the number of epileptic seizures, incommunicative children begin to talk more, and children with reduced (acquired or congenital) emotionality begin to show this ability actively. Contact with cats relieves stress and fights chronic fatigue, and the soothing purring, similar to meditation or the sounds of nature, helps to sink into a deep sleep and even take away physical pain. We also plan to involve horses and ponies in pet therapy. They are located near the sanatorium. Help the affected children get real peace and quiet of mind, and the animals to get a new home. You can help children and animals that help these children to forget the horror of war by transferring funds to the following accounts.
